A Few Spreads from My Tall Skinny Visual Journal

I haven't looked at this in years.  It's 8 years old.  I still love journaling and collaging on paper and in books so much.  Here are a few spreads that I thought were fun and worth sharing again.

Thanks for looking and have a great day!

Holly Loves Art Doll, Visual Journaling, Jewelry and More!

New Holly Loves Art Dolls available in my Etsy shop. Click here to read more!

Continuing on with the 100 Days of Art Project.  I don't think I've missed a day of creating once!  Here is one of the journal pages I've collaged during this process of daily creativity.

A custom necklace and earrings for a client who loves feathers!

I also designed a line of "Love is Love" necklaces in honor of Gay Pride month.  Sharing them on Facebook brought a lot of awareness and many new happy customers found me!

I'm always designing unique pieces with found objects and vintage pieces like this rhinestone broach.

These two are designed with a vintage bullet casing and a vintage salt shaker as the focal points.

And a post wouldn't be complete without sweet Phoebe.  She's my little doll.

Hope you're all having a wonderful summer.

Holly Loves Art Doll Made Especially for Terry

My friend Terry commissioned me to make her a custom Holly Loves Art Doll in her favorite colors, which are blacks and creams.  You should see her art studio! It's perfectly color-coordinated in these striking colors.  So this little gal fit just perfectly with her decor.

This little lady even comes with her own pet Frenchie, Which is one of Terry's favorite dog breeds (although I've seen her go crazy for all dogs!).

The top reads, Dear Little You.
And Terry's initials are on the back of the doll.

For those of you who know me, I LOVE making custom pieces.  Contact me if you want one too!
Have a fantastic day!

Dogoupage!

Oh for the Love of Dog!

Here is my latest dogoupage of my beloved Phoebe.
My favorite student made this precious portrait of Apple Butter, this past Saturday.  It's quite wonderful isn't it?

Here are the two previous class samples I've made previously. This is Jingle.

And this is my mom's dog, Romeo.

I will be teaching this class at OVA Arts in Ojai, CA on July 19th.

I LOVE teaching this class and can't wait to do it again.

Have a lovely day.

News Flash! People still LOVE Receiving Snail Mail!

Boring white envelopes are.... well they are B-O-R-I-N-G! Sure, it's the thought that counts and if you're still sending tangible greeting cards then way to go! But next time try doodling or adding some stickers to the outside of your envelope to really it make it stand out in your friend's mailbox!

I've been told by my recipients that seeing something cheery that's NOT a bill is the best part of their day!  So next time take a highlighter and brighten up your envelope!

Here is an envelope I designed many years ago.  It was published in a beautiful book entitled, Good Mail Day...

I love knowing you stopped by so please leave me a quick message!

Cheers!

A Collection of Original Art

Back in 2005 I traded ATC's (Artist Trading Cards) and purchased playing card sized works of art.  Of course I saved them all and have wanting to do something cool with my favorites.  I finally put this together and am thrilled with it.  There are 7 of my pieces mixed in as well.  Hard to believe that I was collecting these ten years ago!  Now I have a new beautiful piece of art for my wall.

Hope you're all having a fantastic day.

Cheers,
Holly

Introducing My New One-of-a-Kind Holly Loves Art Dolls!

What is an Art Doll, you ask? Wikipedia says art dolls are objects of art, rather than children's toys created in a wide variety of styles and media.  That about sums it up.  I've always said that art dolls are not meant to be played with and they are certainly not baby or Barbie Dolls!

These little works of art are a true labor of love. From concept to final is so thrilling to me!
I've been making dolls since my kindergarten teacher showed me how to draw paper dolls.  My mom also gave me her precious paper dolls from the 1940's and showed me how to make my own outfits out of the JC Penney catalog.  I sewed Barbie fashions and learned ceramics in high schools where I made some strange little art dolls.  In the last several years I designed and sold over 150 of my hand-stitched fabric dolls that were featured in Stuffed Magazine!

I had this idea to use wood blocks and approached my dad about going through his stash of wood for me.  Sure enough he had all kinds of banister pieces and other types. Both of our wheels were spinning as we talked about my idea.
I sized the images to my liking, printed them out and started the fun of adhering them and getting creative! Lots of paint and glue, vintage wallpaper, other kinds of scraps and whimsical surprises brought everything together. Each doll has a little story of some sort but I'll leave that up to the admirer to determine.

Each girl has a great attitude that I just love and can't wait to make my second batch of Holly Loves Art Dolls with her own unique story.

They stand about 9 inches tall.

Thanks for looking!  Be sure and leave a comment so I know you stopped by.

Have a wonderful day.
